Two and a half years after starting its activity in several municipal spaces, the school will have its headquarters for the 2024-2025 academic year. The former convent of Providence that the City Council has ceded to La Fageda has undergone a rehabilitation that has allowed to dignify the building itself as a training center, as well as the area where it is located, and make available to entities of Olot and the region a space for various uses.

With more than 1,600 m² distributed over three floors, Noima’s headquarters is a warm and welcoming space, designed to facilitate the personal and professional development of young people. In addition to the classrooms, the building has a wide range of facilities, such as a canteen, a kitchen, several workshops, multi-purpose rooms, a digital laboratory, a courtyard and a garden, which invite learning, creativity and conviviality.

Thanks to the generous collaboration of sponsors and companies committed to education, Noima’s headquarters has become a reality. Their shared vision and support have made it possible to build a unique space designed to foster a future for young people.

Having its own headquarters will prevent young people from being scattered in different places, allowing them to meet in the same space, which will foster cohesion and a welcoming atmosphere. It will also improve conditions for the teaching staff. On the other hand, the characteristics of the building meet the requirements for accreditation to offer official SOC training courses in several areas. In addition, the possibility of sharing the space with other entities will facilitate the creation of a relational network, an essential aspect for the personal and professional development of young people.

This July, we celebrated the end-of-course party of the Noima School. We handed out diplomas to 27 students from the welcome classroom, 15 from the activation program and 16 from the customized training program, and we enjoyed a delicious snack accompanied by music.

The event brought together the students of this course and their families, as well as the entire team of professionals from Noima and also from La Fageda and other entities that make the school possible. During the event, Carme Jordà, co-founder of La Fageda, highlighted the great work that Noima does for young people between 16 and 24 years of age in the Garrotxa region who have been left out of the educational and labor system, and who do not have support resources. Also, Àngel Serrat, technical director of Noima, stressed that during this course 2023 – 2024, we have consolidated the team of professionals and we have accompanied a total of 145 young people.

Now it is time to enjoy the summer and we are excited to see what the next course will offer us, which will start on Thursday, September 12 with a forecast of 150 students and will be marked by a very good news: we will inaugurate the new facilities of Noima, in the building La Providencia de Olot.

The assessment of this training activity has been very positive on the part of all the parties involved; the school, the students and the companies that hosted internships. And a large majority of these students have seen how the establishments where they did their internships have taken the step of hiring them for the summer of 2022.

Do you want to help young people in the school to learn the language?

In January of this year, Noima began the programme for literacy and developing roots in the territory aimed at young newcomers who do not know the language, meaning that they are excluded from the educational system and cannot gain access to training adapted to their needs.

This programme is the first step in making it possible for young people to gain access to training at a later stage. As such, the priority is for them to learn the language, a basic requirement both to be able to relate to people and to gain access to other courses.

To help with this, Noima wants to create a library space that will encourage our students to read and, in this way, learn the language. Moving the initiative forward requires material: books and games. As such, if you have books and games that you no longer use, and which you think may be useful for the school, please do not hesitate to bring them.

Why is it called Noima?

Before deciding on a name, you have to think about it a lot and perhaps study it. In the case of the School, we considered around fifty names before looking at “noima”. The name has not only a social and communicative impact, but also legal consequences. Many names are protected by law and as they are already “busy”, you cannot appropriate them.

The first thing to do when – eureka! – you find the name you like, is to check that it is not registered, that is, that it is available. Consequently, you need to consult the different registers of names that exist, whether it be the foundation register, the mercantile register, or the trademark and patent register, among others.

And the work does not end here, since now that the Internet exists, you need to check if the name is being used virtually. In other words, the Internet domain of the chosen name must also be free. At least, in one of the extensions you are interested in. For example .cat, .edu, .com or .org.
